SaferGems was developed in 2009 by NAG and T.H. March to help address serious crimes to which the jewellery and associated trades, antique and fine art dealers are increasingly being targeted by specialist gangs and ruthless amateurs.
On Tuesday 2nd March 2010 SaferGems received CCTV images from a jeweller situated in the South East area of England. The images consisted of three suspects believed to be responsible for theft of a diamond ring.
These images were circulated in a SaferGems alert to the industry which resulted in the alert being shown to the police by another jeweller in the South East who was also a victim of theft by the same suspects.
Liaison between the two police forces investigating the two offences, plus further input from the first jewellery victim about another robbery in their area, resulted in three arrests being made and a third offence being detected.
SaferGems is delighted to have been part of bringing these suspects to the notice of Police and helping them make three good arrests.
This follows earlier success when a Scottish jeweller avoided a credit card fraud as a result of an alert from SaferGems, though as far as we are aware no arrests have yet been made in that case.
