10 Ways to Have Fun this Summer Without Breaking the Bank

Have Fun Without Breaking the Bank this Summer

As the temperature starts to rise, the value of your bank account starts to fall. In fact, 57 per cent of Brits spend more during the summer months—roughly £154 more a month—according to credit report provider, Noddle. To ensure that you have as much fun as possible without depleting your savings, try these financial tips:

  • Start saving a few months before the summer.
  • Visit a free museum or art gallery.
  • Travel during off-peak hours.
  • Book evening flights.
  • Use a shuttle service to get to the airport.
  • Avoid booking direct flights.
  • Use travel rewards credit cards.
  • Bring snacks rather eating out.
  • Visit a park or other green space.
  • Opt for a local camping trip rather than a weekend abroad.

Easily Find Green Spaces with These Free Apps

Parks and green spaces provide people with more than £34 billion of health and well-being benefits, according to a study from the charity, Fields in Trust. To help you take advantage of these spaces, the government has released two free apps focused on promoting outdoor activity.

While green spaces are relatively common throughout the country, you may not always know where to find one. However, this app from the Ordnance Survey provides the location and size of green spaces all across England. You can download the app by clicking here, or you can browse the same information on your computer or smartphone by clicking here.

Finding the ideal park is only half the challenge. Few things can spoil an afternoon at a park like bad weather. With this app from the Met Office, you can not only find out what the weather will be like but also whether the pollen count will be high.

Green spaces are plentiful across the country and with these two apps in your smartphone, there’s no excuse for you to not enjoy the outdoors this summer.
