Wellness: Healthy Habits to Keep in Mind on the Weekend

For many, the weekend offers a much-needed break from a busy workplace routine. And, although it is important to take advantage of time spent away from the office, be sure to avoid doing so at the cost of your health. Follow these weekend wellness tips to keep your body and mind thriving throughout the working week.

  • Stick to a solid sleep routine—While you may feel tempted to turn off your alarm and soak up a couple extra hours of slumber at the weekend, research shows that this practice is bad for your health. In fact, having an inconsistent sleep schedule can mess with your body’s biological clock, actually making you more tired and even increasing your risk of heart disease.
  • Don’t forget about fitness—Although it is important to relax during your time off, eliminating exercise altogether can lead to weekend weight gain. Stay on the move with activities such as running, swimming or taking a walk in a nearby park.
  • Make the most of your meals—Often, people use the weekend as an excuse to ditch their diet plans. However, overindulging at the weekend can lead to weight gain regardless of healthy eating during the week. If you chose to indulge at the weekend, have a cheat meal—not several cheat days.
  • Stay social—It can be difficult to find time for social activities during the working week. That being said, try to incorporate socialisation into your weekend plans. Studies show that socialising is not only beneficial for your mental health, but it can reduce the risk of cognitive impairment and memory decline further down the road.
