How Speeding Affects Your Insurance

While recent data from insurance experts found that nearly 50 per cent of UK drivers exceed the speed limit on any given day of the week, this certainly doesn’t mean that speeding is a smart driving practice.

The Department for Transport found that exceeding the speed limit was one of the top 10 causes of road accidents in the past year—contributing to more than 5,000 total accidents. Apart from being a major safety risk on the road, it can also come with a heightened price tag on your car insurance policy. That’s right—a speeding offence has the potential to increase your motor insurance premiums by an average of £72.

Put simply, it pays off to follow driving regulations on the road. Even if you are running late or have an important event, think twice about the potential consequences next time you want to accelerate past the speed limit.
