Mark Smith ACII
Mark is Chairman but retains his role as Broking Director for the T.H. March Jewellers Block account.
He joined the company in Plymouth Devon in 1987 with responsibilities in the commercial department before moving up to London in 1992. Since that time along with facilitating the operation of the company’s Lloyd’s markets Mark has dealt specifically with Jewellers block insurance and its associated products.
Mark has a BTEC degree in business studies, is ACII qualified and a Chartered Insurance Broker. Before joining T.H. March, Mark spent eight years at Commercial Union, dealing with all aspects of commercial insurance.
Neil McFarlane ACII
Neil is Managing Director for T.H. March.
He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Chartered Insurance Broker. Neil was also elected as one of the youngest Presidents of the Plymouth Insurance Institute in 1992.
Neil’s career in insurance began in 1982 when he joined Cornhill Insurance as a motor and motor fleet Underwriter. He joined T.H. March in 1983, starting with an account handling role within the Commercial Insurance Department, then moving to an account executive’s role, both based in the Plymouth office.
Neil was appointed as an Associate Director, in 1998 and moved to our London office in 1999. He became a Director in 1999 and was appointed Sales Director in 2005.
Andrew Alcock FCA ACII
C.O.O. and Finance Director
Andrew is Chief Operating Officer and Finance Director for T.H. March and joined the company in 2003. He oversees the company’s Personal Lines and general commercial businesses and is responsible for operations and financial management, HR and IT.
Andrew is a chartered accountant, with a background in corporate finance. He has also qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
Before joining T.H. March, Andrew spent eight years as Finance Director of Detica Group plc. He was heavily involved in Detica’s management buyout in 1997 and was a key member of the management team that took the company through its successful flotation on the London Stock Exchange in 2002. He qualified with Ernst and Young in 1987 and spent two years with the firm in Australia, before returning to the UK and specialising in corporate finance.
Michael Ferraro MA MSc ACII
Non Executive Director
Michael is a Non Executive Director, following his long career with us.
He joined T.H. March in 1972, coming from a research background in molecular genetics. He worked initially in London in Jewellers Block, general commercial and life departments, before moving to the Plymouth office where he completed his Associateship of the Chartered Insurance Institute. In 1978 he moved to the Birmingham office for 10 years before returning to London in 1988.
Michael was the 3rd generation of his family to hold the post of Managing Director. His grandfather joined the firm’s founder, Thomas H March, in 1905, with his father taking over the role on his grandfather’s death in 1960.
Simon Dawe Dip CII
Simon is Regional Director of the Birmingham office, which covers the Midlands and South Wales.
The Birmingham office deals with more than 800 clients, of which the vast majority are involved in the jewellery and giftware trades.
Simon joined T.H. March in 1997 and worked in Plymouth, mainly in the Commercial Department, for six years. He was promoted to Account Executive in 2003 and moved to the Birmingham office, subsequently gaining his CII Diploma in 2006.
Simon is a trustee of the British Jewellery Giftware and Finishing Federation Benevolent Society.
Lee is the Regional Director responsible for Manchester office which looks after our clients in the north of England.
He has been in the insurance industry since 1974 and started broking at Sedgwick, firstly in the motor dept then the fire and accident dept. He then moved to Reed Stenhouse working with major commercial clients.
He has been with T.H. March since 1985.
Richard D’Agostino BA MSc FCII
Richard is Regional Director managing T.H. March’s Glasgow office, responsible for a portfolio including clients in Scotland, Northern England, Northern Ireland and Eire.
After completing his degree in Business Management, Richard joined Stenhouse/Aon where he worked in the Technical Audit Department, gaining his ACII, prior to joining T.H. March in 1989.
As part of his ongoing Professional Development, Richard successfully attained Chartered Insurance Broker status and the FCII distinction before going on to complete an MSc in Risk Management & Insurance at Glasgow Caledonian University.
Karen is Manager of the Company’s largest Sales Office in Sevenoaks, responsible for making sure that everything runs smoothly.
She joined T.H. March in 1977 and spent 8 years in the Jewellers Block Department. She then left to work for C E Heath & Co as an Account Handler and then Fielding Seaton and Jones to run their Jewellers Block /Art Dealers Departments, including broking in Lloyds.
Karen returned to T.H. March in 1990 to assist with the running of the Sevenoaks Office and became Associate Director in 1999. She holds the Certificate in Insurance.
John Watson ACII
Personal Lines Director
John is based in Yelverton and is responsible for running the Personal Insurances side of the business.
He qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute in 1992 and was made a Chartered Insurance Broker in 2001.
Prior to joining T.H. March in 1982, John spent five years with the Phoenix Assurance Company as a Commercial and later Personal Lines Underwriter.
