On Sunday the 19th of July, 15 colleagues from our Plymouth office tightened their laces and participated the Pretty Muddy 5K Run in aid of Cancer Research UK. With many of the participants having experienced in varying forms the destructiveness that cancer can bring, the day was emotionally charged but at the same time, fun for all!
The participants were Catherine Carlton, Megan Ellis, Natasha Harvey, Lisa Quiterio, Jo Federico, Kim Allen, Deanne White, Tyler Snibson, Jemma Wheeler, Sarah Brown, Michelle Hayward, Charlotte Allan, Kate Greaves, Alex Doyle and Megan Perry – with Elaine Williams providing essential support for the exhausted runners after the race, having brought nourishment in the form of chorizo sausage rolls and rice crispy squares!
In total, the team raised in excess of £1055 for Cancer Research UK – an amazing amount! A huge well done to all participants, who not only completed the race, but did so in the middle of an intense heatwave, crawling through mud and tackling obstacles for an hour on average!
Discussing the day, Charlotte Allan said “Pretty Muddy was an inspiring event full of teamwork, laughter, and a shared commitment to making a difference!”
Adding to this, Catherine Carlton wrote that “I woke up Sunday morning dreading it and wondering why I put myself forward, however it turned out to be an emotional day (they talk about cancer before you start and its very heartwarming). Once the race starts, its great, great fun, you climb over things, under then and covered in mud with some running chucked in as well. A real sense of togetherness as everyone is doing it for the same reason. The crowd was great and cheers you on all the way round.”
Joanne Federico stated “What an amazing way to raise lots of money for a really good and worthwhile cause. I didn’t realise getting soaked, covered in mud from head to toe whilst running and tackling an obstacle course would be so much fun and also rewarding and emotional!”
Lisa Quiterio added “Pretty Muddy was a challenging yet rewarding experience. While it was great fun, it was also very emotional and served as a powerful reminder of how many lives cancer affects.”
Finally, Kim Allen said “Such a fun, emotional, and atmospheric experience. Already looking forward to next year!”
