On Friday 21 June Pete Watson (Regional Development Manager) used his Employer Supported Volunteering (ESV) day to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK by taking part in The Big Golf Race.

This consists of walking 4 continuous rounds of golf on the same day, playing 72 holes and walking approximately 25 miles. According to Prostate Cancer UK, 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in the UK. That’s thousands of dads, partners, grandads, golf mates, sons, and brothers. The Big Golf Race helps to fund research to find better tests that could save thousands of lives, one round and one donation at a time.

Pete and friends started at 5.30am and after 4 continuous rounds of golf, walking the 25 miles they finished just before 10pm. Pete and his friends have raised around £3,750.

Pete said “I decided to take part in The Big Golf Race as I’m a big golf fan and enjoy getting out on the course as much as I can, so supporting Prostate Cancer UK’s Big Golf Race raising funds and awareness was a no brainer for me. It was great to have the support of my employer, TH March, being able to use our Employer Supported Volunteering Day. We’re all delighted to have raised a fantastic amount for Prostate Cancer UK, and thank everyone’s generous donations to help save men’s lives.”

Employer supported volunteering (ESV) gives employees at TH March Group the opportunity to volunteer during working hours and contribute their time to make a positive difference within our local communities. Staff are allocated one day (paid) per year (Jan-Dec) to volunteer. It can be taken as one full day or two half days.
