As part of our Employer Supported Volunteering scheme (ESV), members of team THM recently conducted a litter pick at Burrator Reservoir (Yelverton, Devon) situated within Dartmoor.
The TH March National Service Centre is approximately 5 miles from Burrator Reservoir, and we are lucky to have such fantastic surroundings of mixed woodland, the open moor, and the rugged Dartmoor tors.
Despite the rain, the team set out with bin liners, litter grabbers and gloves and headed off for an afternoon of Employer Supported Volunteer time competing to see who could collect the most rubbish. Several bags were collected helping to keep our environment clean and healthy. Well done to Emily C, Oliver I, Kate C, Eling, Carl B, Sarah B and Caroline L!
Kate C commented: “The litter pick activity was a great opportunity to get out in the fresh air on the open moorland of one of Dartmoor’s most spectacular tors, spend some quality time away from the office with other members of the team and all while, we were making a difference to the local community”.
Carl B said: “I feel fortunate for TH March to have provided this opportunity to me and the others who took part. It was positive to bond with colleagues outside of the usual working environment and we spent an enjoyable time doing something worthwhile.”
Caroline L said: “I signed up because I think it is such a good cause. I think it is so important to keep our beautiful countryside litter free for both the use and enjoyment of animals and humans. It was an enjoyable afternoon walking around the reservoir with colleagues/friends chatting and putting the worlds to rights and it was a rewarding feeling that what we picked up is no longer littering the reservoir.”
Jo Morgan, Regional Director HR, at TH March said: “We introduced Employer Supported Volunteering at TH March in January 2023. With branches all around the UK, we wanted to ensure colleagues have the opportunity to make a difference within their local communities and provide paid time off to volunteer.
Colleagues can choose to use their ESV day to volunteer for a day or participating in fundraising activities for community projects, charities, and good causes.
We are really pleased that so far colleagues have taken part in volunteering at local hospice charity hubs in Plymouth, fundraising by participating golf charity events in Manchester, as well as volunteering at a local zoo, litter picking in a nature reserve area close to our offices in Devon. Our Managing Director has also taken part in a charity boat race for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity. There are many more ESV events being planned for the rest of 2024, and we are always encouraging colleagues to use their ESV days!”.
